Aims & Principles

What we do

Angus Citizens Advice Bureau was founded in 1985 and is a member of Citizens Advice Scotland. We receive core funding from Angus Council. We are run by a Board of Directors representing the local community.

Our aims :

We aim to ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available, or through an inability to express their needs effectively.

We aim to exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both locally and nationally.

Our guiding principles :

  • Free - the service is completely free to all clients
  • Confidential - clients’ details are not disclosed to anyone
  • Impartial - we do not judge clients
  • Independent - our service is not influenced by outside agencies
  • Accessible - we aim to make our service accessible to all
  • Effective - we aim to meet our clients’ needs
  • Accountable - we are responsible to the local community
  • Clients’ Right to Decide - we offer advice and information, clients make the decision
  • Voluntary - the service is primarily provided by local volunteers
  • Empowerment - we help clients to help themselves
  • Information Retrieval - we use clients experiences to influence policy
  • Generalist - we give advice on any subject

Quality :

The quality of our service is assessed by independent auditors and assessors under the Citizens Advice Scotland Membership and Quality Assurance Standards and Quality Assurance Scheme. This rigorous quality assessment ranks alongside all other external quality management schemes. We also have to satisfy standards laid down in our Service Level Agreement with Angus Council, the monitoring arrangements for which are implemented by the Joint Strategic Support Unit, together with any other standards adopted by other funders.
